2015 : Community Dance | ACHIM and Centre des femmes de Verdun

Following the successes of 2014 and with the desire to go even farther in working with the community, the Community Dance Project was initiated. It involves offering a series of workshops to create a choreography based on the collaborative creation between a choreographer-dancer and participants from the wider community.

~ ConfiDanses de femmes – Verdun Women’s Centre: With a training in both Latin dance and contemporary dance, Elizabeth Suich takes on the creation of a unique aesthetic where the codes of these two disciplines intermix, proposing atypical and atemporal universes. She worked with the Verdun Women’s Centre, which offers a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and feminist space where the rights and interests of women are defended, through a perspective of social change.

Au loin d’autres îles – ACHIM: Dancer, teacher and choreographer for thirty years, Jane Mappin is keenly interested in the relationship between contemporary dance and other forms of artistic expression. She met the elders of the Alternatives communautaires d’habitation et d’intervention de milieu (ACHIM), a community organization which has as its mission to develop community resources for elderly persons in the Montreal neighbourhoods of Ville-Émard and Côte-St-Paul in order to keep them in their communities and support their quality of life.

Both choreographies were presented as part of the 13th edition of the festival, during the day Quarters Danses on Wellington! This presentation allowed the audience to discover the enthusiasm and sensitivity of the choreographers and participating performers.
