VICIOUS CIRCLE: A 360° DOME EXPERIENCE

A pioneering work by Dulcinea Langfelder reimagined in the dome of the Montreal Planetarium

Montreal, October 8, 2026 — What if a single work of art could encompass an entire life? On October 20 and 21, the public is invited to enjoy an extraordinary experience at the Chaos Theatre at the Montreal Planetarium, as Dulcinea Langfelder & Cie, in a co-production with Lucion, present Vicious Circle, a 360° interdisciplinary work co-presented by Festival Quartiers Danses (FQD).

A unique project at the intersection of dance, circus, poetry, and new technologies, Vicious Circle transforms the dome into a performance space. The body, movement, and imagery take over the entire dome to create a 360° cinematic experience, in which the audience is immersed in the heart of the work.

From the first creation to the last: a dizzying cycle

Created in 1985, Vicious Circle was Dulcinea Langfelder’s very first one-woman show. For ten years, this intimate, multidisciplinary production—blending dance, mime, theater, music, song, and video projections—toured Canada, the United States, and Europe, reaching a wide audience and garnering critical acclaim.

More than four decades later, with a resolutely interdisciplinary repertoire and 125 international tours under her belt, Dulcinea Langfelder revisits this seminal work, giving it a new technological framework and a new physical dimension.

In this adaptation, the possibilities offered by the 360° dome allow the boundaries of the original creation to be pushed even further. The simple hoop that once accompanied the character has given way to the Cyr wheel, an imposing circular structure that has become a performance partner and an extension of the body. It is masterfully manipulated by circus artist Angelica Bongiovonni, renowned for her exceptional work in this discipline, and becomes a force, a performance space, a symbol, and a metaphor for existence.

An Inner Journey

In Vicious Circle, a character explores their fears and tries to make sense of what eludes them: grief, insecurity, vulnerability, curiosity, but also that deep determination to find their place in the world.

Through movement, poetry, and imagery, the work explores the cycles that shape our lives. The circle becomes the guiding thread of an intimate journey spanning from birth to death, evoking the new beginnings, repetitions, transformations, and transitions that mark every existence.

The work holds special significance today, as it is both the first and last creation by Dulcinea Langfelder, who passed away in 2025. Vicious Circle thus presents itself as a looping work: a return to one’s roots that also becomes a final artistic gesture, a way of revisiting the beginning in order to better close the circle.

A new territory for Festival Quartiers Danses

With this presentation, Festival Quartiers Danses continues its commitment to choreographic forms that blur the boundaries between disciplines and media. The convergence of dance, circus, immersive cinema, and digital technologies offers audiences a new way to engage with movement.

This collaboration is a natural extension of the long-standing relationship between FQD and Dulcinea Langfelder. The artist has participated in five editions of the Festival—the 7th, 8th, 11th, 15th, and 20th. In 2022, her film “Victoria” was screened as part of the 20th edition at the Cinéma du Musée.

With Vicious Circle, FQD is now opening the doors to another space for projection and immersion, creating an encounter between an iconic work and the breathtaking possibilities of the Planetarium’s dome.
