In this new episode, the Vibe Dance podcast welcomes its very first international guest: Polish choreographer and artistic director Małgorzata Dzierżon.
Trained in classical ballet in Poland, Małgorzata Dzierżon has been dancing since childhood… on the terrace of her apartment building, right in front of her neighbors! Her brilliant career as a dancer then took her to the world’s greatest stages, notably with the Royal Danish Ballet, the Gothenburg Ballet, and the prestigious Rambert Company in London. She quickly developed a deep passion for contemporary dance and began creating her own works.
Since 2022, she has been the artistic director of the Opera Wroclawska (Wrocław Opera) ballet. At the helm of this young company of 34 dancers with classical training, she brings a modern vision to the troupe. Despite recent geopolitical challenges, she is transforming the repertoire by opening the institution’s doors to new styles and daring new works.
In 2024, a pivotal meeting with Rafik Hubert Sabbagh at the Polish Dance Platform laid the groundwork for an unprecedented exchange between the Quartiers Danses Festival and the Polish company.
This unique partnership enabled three up-and-coming Montreal choreographers—Charles Brecard, Jason Martin, and Pauline Gervais—to create works in Poland in March 2025, while the Wrocław Opera company, in turn, dazzled Montreal audiences during the 2025 edition of the festival.
