Choreographer
After graduating with honors from Toronto Metropolitan University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Performance, Zachary Bastille moved to Montreal, where his choreographies were presented in the “Révolution” television competition, at the Festival Quartiers Danses, and at the Terra Firma Festival. Through his art, Zachary is interested in interpersonal and spatial relationships, exploring how the emotional, impulsive, sensitive body, aware of its imperfect and vulnerable human value, generates movement.
Between fluidity and tension, I draw inspiration from an impulsive, vulnerable, and sensitive body to create movement. My highly physical choreographic work weaves together worlds that are both surreal and dreamlike.
My works explore our relationship to power and powerlessness in various forms, as well as the conflicts and resolutions that arise from them.
