Biography

Yasushi Kurotaki (b. 1986, Tokyo) is a performer, choreographer, and actor. Trained in mime under Hiroyasu Sasaki and influenced by Saburo Teshigawara’s method through KARAS workshops, he began creating his own works in 2021. His solo Beyond the Poem won First Prize at SAI Dance Festival 2023. His works have been presented at Theatre X, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, and international platforms. Exploring gravity, perception, and memory, he develops a physical language rooted in mime, questioning the fragility and essence of human existence.

Artistic vision

I work with the body as a site where memory, perception, and imagination intersect. Through shifts of weight, gravity, and tactile awareness, I seek movements that emerge before language. Rooted in mime, my practice extends beyond representation, approaching the body as a thinking entity. I am drawn to what cannot be fully understood—traces of existence, silence, and the fragile boundary between self and other.
