Vanessa Brazeau

Choreographer and Performer

Details

  • Montréal

Biography

A graduate from the School of Toronto Dance Theater, Vanessa returned to Montréal in 2015 and has since been working in Contemporary Dance as a performer, teacher, and choreographer. Hoping to advance Contemporary Dance outside of large urban centres and popularize it further, she wrote her first complete piece “Le Petit Prince”. Largely inspired by literature, she went back to school to earn a Certificate in Creative Writing from the Université du Québec in Montréal, aiming to link both her literary and contemporary dance creation methods.

Artistic vision

“The piece attempts to create a relationship between the duality of our body and our mind. The performer’s body language remains active for extended periods of time, and we use repetition, tiredness, and a desire to explore the subconscious. Through prolonged periods of rhythmic, continuous, and tiring movements, we start identifying recurring images, body positions and specific movements we can compare to the psychological state of the performer.”
