Biography

Founded in Montreal in 1957 by Ludmilla Chiriaeff, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens is one of Canada’s most influential dance companies. Renowned for its repertoire blending classical ballet and contemporary creation, the company presents works by leading international choreographers, including Uwe Scholz. A leading figure in European ballet, Scholz has developed a musical and virtuosic choreographic style that continues to influence major dance companies around the world.

Artistic vision

Jeunehomme is a choreography by Uwe Scholz inspired by Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major. Premiered in 1986 for the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, it is now part of the repertoire of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.

The piece for 21 dancers is built around several couples and concludes with a solo embodying Mozart. Structured in three classical movements (fast, slow, fast), it highlights the energy and elegance of Mozart’s music.
