Dancer and choreographer
Sylvia Berman is a freelance professional dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Montréal, Quebec. She began her pre-professional training at the Quinte Ballet School of Canada before being accepted into the B.F.A. program at the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase, where she graduated summa cum laude. She is currently an artistic collaborator with PLAYDATE Dance and dances soloist roles with Ballet Ouest de Montréal.
In my dance practice, I endeavor to be curious, unrelenting and generous in the hopes of stirring something in myself and others. I like to think that I perform fragments of my life experiences in choreographic sequences. This allows for comprehension, exploration and reimagining of my universe. Through this, both the performer and observer may momentarily have a shared shift in their state of being that might alter their trajectory in some way, consciously or not.
