Biography

An artist working in movement and creation within contemporary dance, Lamont (they/them) is originally from Terrebonne and a graduate of the Modus Operandi program in Vancouver. Through their Canada-wide project self checkout, they are developing initiatives that connect the queer youth community with the performing arts. Lamont serves as a guest curator for Dancemakers (Toronto, 2025–2026) and is currently working on their first stage production for teenagers, in partnership with Tangente. This marks their third participation in Festival Quartier Danses in urban context.

Artistic vision

My choreographic work seeks lightness and storytelling at the very heart of a highly physical and precise practice. I love it when there’s a lot of movement, when it challenges me just enough to make me smile. Inspired by surrealism and queer non-linearity, I explore ways to rethink our relationships with space, time, and others. I love working as part of a team; my collaborators are often the living driving forces behind the work, and I actively draw inspiration from their unique sensibilities. These days, I’m learning to play the acoustic guitar on YouTube and planning to go back to school to study kinesiology. All of this together makes up my artistic approach: sensitive, DIY, community-oriented, demanding, and coherent.
