Dancer and choreographer
After graduating from l’École Danse Contemporaine de Montréal, Jason Martin performed with Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Daniel Léveillé Danse and le Carré des Lombes. In 2016, he founded ENTITEY/jason Martin. His solo étude nO.1 won Best Dancer at the SoloDuo NRW + Friends in Cologne and the Jury Prize at the Certamen Coreográfico 10 Sentidos in Valencia. Jason has done commissioned works, notably for Taller Coreográfico UNAM, Ballet Nacional Dominicano, Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, and la Compañía Nacional de Danza de Costa Rica.
Guided by an intuitive and sensory approach, Jason Martin explores the genesis of being, what defines it at its core, and how it manifests in the body.
His choreographic practice is rooted in listening to emotions and bodily responses, seeking to reveal the integrity of gesture and a total physical commitment. Movement becomes a language of the unspoken, conveying the complexity of human relationships between self-sufficiency and interdependence, vulnerability and resistance, provocation and resignation.
