Professional contemporary dancer
Janelle Hacault is a French-Canadian contemporary dancer, choreographer, teacher, and actress of Filipino descent based in Montreal.
She has performed on stage (Annie: The Musical, Rhapsodie), in film (Virginie Brunelle, Céline Dion), on television (Chanteurs Masqués, Révolution), and with Les 7 Doigts. Her works have been presented at the FQD since 2018, including Shapeshifters, Dissections: Yoko Ono, Pieces #1-2, and Ce Moment Où.
I strive to connect with people on a human level. To do this, I use theatrical elements such as dialogue and characters, humor, and the expression of emotions. I am currently training in stand-up comedy to deepen my practice. The themes that continue to inspire me are spirituality, grief, identity, and, more recently, politics. I believe that the body is the key to truth and that the body in motion communicates truths that can only be understood by being felt.
