Choreographer
A Montreal-based artist, David’s versatility and love of diverse dance forms allow him to collaborate on a multitude of projects. Over the past 25 years, he has worked on more than fifty projects. In his dance, the creative gesture strives for a communication of body, heart, and mind. Connecting with life and with what resonates within us is a quest in his artistic practice. In his creative process, he recognizes the power of dialogue and the richness of the connections between organization, the craftsman’s work, and the creative process. “As a creator, I believe that the artist’s sensitive gesture is political. I try to embody the change I would like to see in this world.” David has been the artistic director of PPS Danse since June 2020.
For the process of this new work, I drew inspiration from the piece of the same name, Just, by the artist David Lang. The words, rhythms, and repetitions of Lang’s piece allowed me to develop a basic lexicon for the choreography. The word, carrying meaning, lends an everyday quality and universality to the gesture. The process of repetition, for its part, allows one to abstract or highlight one of the components of the work. Once these different materials are explored, the next step is to let them interact with the intelligence and impulses of the body.
