An overseas partnership between Festival Quartiers Danses and the Ciné-Corps Festival in France!

As part of the exhibition Yes! from Global Refusal to the Time of Inclusion and Gender Fluidity, the Festival Ciné-Corps welcomed Aboriginal dancer and choreographer Barbara Diabo for an excerpt from her performance Sky Dancers. This work was presented as a world premiere for the opening night of the 19th edition of the FQD. For the first time in Europe, the audience of the Ciné-Corps / Waterproof festival was able to discover the dance of hoops. In this piece, she pays tribute to her great-grandfather who perished in the collapse of the Quebec City bridge in 1907. Thirty-three Mohawk ironworkers from the Kahnawake community were swept away, she dances with 33 hoops to honor the 33 men. Some of the participants also had the opportunity to attend a hoop dance workshop with Barbara in Rennes.
