Round Table: Dancing the Intergenerational- Challenges and Solutions

LAURE BARRACHINA | Responsable de la médiation culturelle au FQD / Cultural mediation manager at FQD

“Bringing dance to where it isn’t” – this is FQD’s motto for reaching new audiences in community centres, senior centres, social and health centres, schools, and CPEs. For the last 6 years, the FQD has organized cultural mediation activities throughout the year.

This year, the FQD added a new section to its cultural mediation work: intergenerationality. Elderly people around the world are victims of negative stereotyping and many suffer from isolation. In 2030, there will be more elderly people than people under the age of 20. This statistic should make us rethink the role of elders in society and their necessary valorization. How can intergenerational cultural projects help renew social ties between generations? How can these projects be established and what are the challenges to overcome? Finally, what role can dance play in this work?

In collaboration with the Regroupement québécois de la danse (RQD) and the Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal.
