Contemporary dance and traditions

Contemporary dance, current and of the present moment. What is this dance form’s relationship with the past, traditions, even traditional dances? How do choreographers draw inspiration, incorporate, respect, modify, and renew them? Moderator Josiane Fortin, choreographer and researcher of dance history in Quebec, will discuss with panelists Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo, who mixes contemporary and Indigenous dance, Zab Maboungou from the Danse Nyata Nyata Company and Contemporary dance pioneer in Canada, and Mario Boucher, artistic director for Zeugma, Urban Folklore Collective.
