Territories and Metamorphoses

This program blends circus and contemporary dance to challenge our personal and mythological limits. From the absurd and political sparring in Qu’est-ce que j’en ferais by Acting for Climate Montreal to the oceanic contortions of Tēthýs (Extended) by Anna Protsiou, the performers explore power, territory, and the unknown.

Acting for Climate - Qu'est-ce que j'en ferais (20 min)

Mouse Traps, Cute, Fun

In Qu’est-ce que j’en ferais, Nathan Biggs-Penton, a multidisciplinary artist at the intersection of circus and dance, portrays a relationship between two men grappling with notions of territory and (neo)colonial power dynamics. Together with Fernando, he explores these themes with humor, absurdity, and great sensitivity, through their circus-trained bodies. Everyday objects become the canvas for their exploration of boundaries, power dynamics, and caring for one another. Grounded in ecological, feminist, and anti-colonial values, this production invites us to rethink how we inhabit the world and live together.

Anna Protsiou - Tēthýs (20 min)

Transformation, Body, Exploration

Tēthýs is a contemporary contortion solo that explores the concepts of origin and destination. Drawing on mythology and hybrid figures that blend human and animal traits, the piece also delves into the underwater world to further its exploration of the cycle of life and death. By embracing the unknown depths of the ocean, Tethys continually returns to the same question: who are we really? Anna Protsiou is a contemporary dancer and contortionist originally from Greece, based in Montreal.
