On the program

This evening's choreographies will take you into the singular and profound worlds of artists from Montreal and New York. Discover choreographers Emma-Lynn Mackay Ronacher, Maya Orchin and duo Rebecca Margolick & Jason Martin.

Emma-Lynn Mackay Ronacher | What She Saw (15 min)

This artistic project is the work of Emma-Lynn MacKay-Ronacher, originally from Kemptville, Ontario, and trained at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec. After five years of study in classical and contemporary dance, she was a guest artist with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and collaborated with various Montreal choreographers. Her award-winning solo What She Saw plunges audiences into the tumult of adolescence through movement, theater and music, encouraging reflection on the personal journey of each individual.

Maya Orchin & Stefanie Nelson | Nostra Dea : 2 (15 min)

Maya Orchin, a choreographer and movement director based in London and New York, has left her mark on the global art scene with her innovative work. As founder and director of SNDancegroup, Dance Italia and Motore592 Contemporary Art Space, she revolutionizes the standards of virtuosity and staging, bringing dance opportunities to a wide audience. Her latest contemporary dance duo, Nostra Dea : 2, explores the complexities of human nature through the character of Dea, embodying the unpredictability and changing nature of identity.

Rebecca Margolick & Jason Martin | The One(s) Who Never Lived (30 min)

Jason MartiJason Martin founded ENTITEY/jason Martin in 2016 after evolving in various companies. He has created works for Taller Coreográfico UNAM, Ballet Nacional Dominicano, Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers and Compañía Nacional de Danza de Costa Rica. Rebecca Margolick, a Canadian dancer and choreographer based in New York, was named by Dance Magazine in 2021 as one of the 25 personalities to watch. Her creations have been presented worldwide, including at Ballet B.C.’s Annex, the Ailey BFA Program, Michiyaya, DancePORT Derida and Oregon Ballet Theater. Their performances explore the balance between order and spontaneity, highlighting the convergence between natural and artificial, human and mechanical.
