A major figure in Canadian dance with over 150 works to her credit, Margie Gillis has dedicated her career to transmission, innovation, and performance for over 50 years through her dance foundation.
This new solo piece explores a personal cosmology through visions of distant futures. In a narrative set at the boundary between reality and possibility, a body alone in the face of infinity seeks its own gravity. Somewhere between contemplation and catharsis, this choreographic journey offers a science fiction of the living: not a technological “elsewhere,” but a shift in perception where the body becomes a planet, an archive, and an instrument of navigation, and where inhabiting the unknown means reconfiguring the very laws of experience.
Lyre Liar is a hybrid solo conceived and performed by Liam Francis, combining performance and lecture-demonstration to offer an intimate glimpse into the world of dance. Through excerpts from works by Merce Cunningham, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Kate Prince, the artist recounts his journey with sincerity and vulnerability. Between moments of dance and spoken word, the piece explores the dancer’s multiple identities and their transformations. He unpacks the complexities of shifting identities, the toll it takes, and the questions it leaves behind, inviting the audience to discover the hidden realities of life as a professional performer.
