Il pleut, il plaint, il rage is a 10-minute excerpt from a longer solo, performed and choreographed by emerging contemporary dance artist Charles Brecard. The full-length version of the piece was created for the Internationales Solo Tanz Theater Stuttgart 2023, where it was awarded 3 prizes: 1st place in the Best Choreography category, DAF International Award, Equilibrio Dinamico Award.
The piece, worked on during ImPulsTanz’s ATLAS program and lasting a total of 45 minutes, explores the artist’s path to rage against the inertia of our decadent system. Through his vocabulary of fluid, continuous movements, he reveals his deepest nature, his true conviction. How far are we restricting our true selves? How far can we cross this threshold? Beyond rationality and morality, he lets an insidious character take over. Somewhere between a wise monk and an angry monkey, a being who has lost his mind in the face of the absurdity of the world. A world that’s falling apart because of the actions of some, because after all, it seems our only answer to everything is violence. And perhaps that is indeed our only wisdom, our only path, our only flow, our only comfort.
