Geometries of Vertigo

A signature evening celebrating Quebec choreographers, where the vibrant energy of Cas Public (Hélène Blackburn x Cai Glover) meets the sensitive reflection of Zachary Bastille and the neoclassical dance of the junior company BD Dance Project —presenting a triptych choreographed by Owen Montague, Shawn Hounsell, and Jérémy Galdéano— like a surprising embodied dialogue on stage.

Hélène Blackburn (Cas Public) - YEAHH (10 min)

Passion, Precision, Tension, Sensation

YEAHH unites two musical worlds of opposing forces: the raw, magnetic presence of James Brown and the meticulously crafted elegance of Rameau. The duo finds its ground here, portraying two bodies searching for one another, shifting from a shared gaze to a powerful hold. Hélène Blackburn has directed the Cas Public company for over 30 years, propelling her creations onto the world’s most prestigious stages, from the Paris Opera to the Royal Opera House in London.

Zachary Bastille - Que la beauté nous décapite (15 min)

Evocative, relentless, dynamic

Que la beauté nous décapite depicts the ideological clash between two individuals driven to the limits of their convictions. Inspired by the rise of masculinism and political violence, the work is led by choreographer Zachary Bastille, a multidisciplinary artist whose talent has left its mark on the Quebec arts scene, notably during a notable appearance on the show Révolution.

Cai Glover (Cas Public) - Rose Red and Violet Blue (10 min)

Precision, Musicality, Sensibility

In Rose Red and Violet Blue, choreographer Cai Glover explores the extractive and attractive elements of friendship in this new duet featuring Alexander Ellison and Leah Hamel. The dancers remind us that friendship and its many colors can build us up and break us down. When we become entwined in the relational web of another we are made and unmade in their hands.

Intermission (20 min)

Triptych presented by BD Projet Danse, with choreographies by Owen Montague, Shawn Hounsell, and Jérémy Galdéano

neo-classical, junior company, three signatures

This triptych by the junior company BD Projet Danse showcases the virtuosity and energy of emerging young dancers through three distinct pieces: Une Solitude by Owen Montague, a vibrant and passionate collective work performed by eight young dancers; Untitled (figures) by Shawn Hounsell, a surgically precise neoclassical duo exploring the intimacy of interpersonal relationships; and bangbang by Jérémy Galdéano, a striking piece for eight performers that combines classical technique, an incisive rhythm, and bold theatricality.
