Tentacle Tribe

Tangible Shadow of Former Self | Cinquième Salle de la Place des Arts

The choreography takes inspiration from three dance movies – “Metamorph” (2020), “Exuviae” (2021), and “Terra” (2022) – created by Elon Höglund and directors Stefan Verna and Marites Carino for Festival Quartiers Danses. The movies dive into spiritual transformation and growth, offering a captivating viewpoint on the evolution of movement and body language.

Pauline Gervais | Pauline Berndsen Danse

Insectoïdes | Cinquième Salle de la Place des Arts

This duo explores the captivating world of insects with agility and grace, while highlighting their diversity and unusual shapes. In a miniature universe, both artists portray the complexity, duality, and mystery of insect life, while underscoring its individuality, strength, and solidarity.

In “Insectoïdes,” the speed of legs and vivacity of antennas are brought to life through fluid, dismantled, or jerky movements. Each step becomes an artistic expression of the subtle interactions, complex relationships, psyche, and reflexes of the insect kingdom.

Through a captivating performance, artists invite the audience to experience a unique visual adventure, rediscover nature with awe, and celebrate an everlasting fascination for the insect world.

Grands Ballets Canadiens

Podium | Cinquième Salle de la Place des Arts

In his new “Podium” on pointe contemporary ballet, the Grands Ballets dancer and choreographer showcases a race against oneself. In this experimental sound piece created by Montreal artists, frenzy meets exhaustion to the rhythm of roaring engines and techno mix.  Dancers are wearing Formula 1-themed costumes and helmets. Rushing is useless, the journey is more important than the destination. The piece is a dynamic, tense, and sensitive exploration through dance.

Jane Mappin

Fleeting Moments: Studies in Being Human | Cinquième Salle de la Place des Arts

A collaboration between composer and cello-player Erich Kory, performer and choreographer Jane Mappin, and performer Rosalie Paquette, “Fleeting Moments: Studies in Being Human” explores the changing landscape of our memory. It analyzes how our personal memories and imagination taint our experiences, and how our bodies never forget. Two generations of performers reflect on their individual story to authentically depict what it means to be human.

Margie Gillis & the Legacy Project Dancers

The Whole Bloomin Thing | Cinquième Salle de la Place des Arts

An entire evening with renowned dancer and choreographer Margie Gillis and The Legacy Project. Margie Gillis performs a solo on an original musical piece from Niko Friesen, and two Legacy Project dancers each execute a solo.

A piece from The Legacy Project, “The Whole Bloomin’ Thing” is inspired by James Joyce’s universe, including his main novel “Ulysses.” As the title indicates, it dives into Molly Bloom’s intimate thoughts, while exploring her environment, social interactions, husband, and intellectual Stephan. It depicts the story of a woman deeply rooted in the natural world, who triumphs in a vibrant celebration of self-assertion despite life’s intricacies.

By supporting the Legacy Project, Margie Gillis not only preserves our dance heritage, but also keeps it alive, vibrant, evolving and growing, while shaping the future of dance. Every step on this stage is a step towards the dance of tomorrow.
