COWARDS calls into question men’s relationship to their virility. The stereotypes created by our contemporary society often turns this into a toxic issue, as men are often challenged by others to publicly assert their masculinity. As such, male behaviour is easily restricted to contemporary ideals or manly characteristics. This choreographic piece shows how difficult it can be for men to express their doubts or fears and be openly fragile and vulnerable. By negating their feelings, men are at risk to be left with only rage, anger, and violence to prove their virility and masculinity.
Like Picasso’s cubist figures, three women dance a conceptual deconstruction of reality. Intertwined with grace and geometry, their bodies stretch to embrace the environment that surrounds them. Their limbs intertwine like fluid brushstrokes. Intertwined in a canvas of bluish, pinkish and meaty hues, these three subjects depict a dreamlike complicity. They join and detach like pieces of a puzzle in a rhythm that is sometimes frantic, sometimes languorous. In a painting that is both pictorial and animated, these three characters construct and deconstruct themselves, evoking different feminine archetypes. Trois Femmes … An ode to new forms and femininity … Trium Femina.
Viewed with VR glasses, immersive dance video WITHIN invites the public to enter the mind of a choreographer. Each member of the audience controls the story and travels with a dancer through the ruins and natural landscapes of the Spanish Basque country. A virtual reality metaverse, the piece showcases real human bodies moving as one with nature.
WITHIN was born thanks to INNOCULT, a European project promoting the development of art and technology prototypes. It was presented during MEET, in Milan, and supported by Dantza Labea, Eszenabide and Espacio Punto de Fuga. So far, the piece has been shown in Cinedans, BLV Art, MEET, Labo Xl, Teatro Barakaldo, and the Dantzan Tzan Festival.
Portraits takes inspiration from thoughts and how they can be expressed through the body. Thoughts and senses are the heart of this piece, where five dancers freely express their own authenticity. Their connection to their own self cements the group, proving that we are all linked, through our individuality, to the source of the same life. How will individual portraits transform the powerful group? Portraits explores how personal experience is necessary to harmoniously connect with one another and create humanity.
Play Dead explores the various rites of passage we are inescapably subjected to in life. In a fancy decor inspired by everyday life, the piece showcases how we navigate our social relationships and daily routines. Strange situations and supernatural interactions arise between characters while they search for a common sense of belonging and stability.
An ode to youth, its doubts, imperfect ideals, fleeting happiness and pure exaltations, Play Dead drives us to be filled with wonder by the beauty of a twisted reality, rendered meaningless with the passage of time.
In this new creation, choreographer and performer Cai Glover fuses poetry and dance to create two characters, one the antithesis of the other. This solo seeks to establish a connection between the two, sometimes in complicity, sometimes in disorder, through contemporary gestures that symbolize the fluctuation of our personalities.
