Program

Yannice Ouellet

L'art de la confrontation | Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest

L’Art de la confrontation combines two different styles of dancing: krumping (urban dancing) and contemporary dance. Through this piece, choreographer Yannice Ouellet tries to raise awareness for krumping and urban dance culture – a way to express oneself through intense physical and facial expression – and present it to a new audience. The piece highlights a “battle,” a widespread practice at the heart of street dancing (hip hop, break, locking, popping, etc.). With L’Art de la confrontation, anyone can discover the “battle” universe and its physical and emotional dimensions. “It is quite simple: Let’s confront the public by placing them in the same position as our adversary, by talking, interacting, pointing and observing them” (Yannice Ouellet).

L’Art de la confrontation is an unusual dialogue between the audience and the performers.

Amira Inaspecta | Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest

Where are we? Where do we come from? Where do we go? Are we really aware of our daily lives and routines? Do we realize how removed we are from nature? Do we notice joy all around us? Do we feel joy? Have we forgotten how to? Are we really conscious? We are responsible for our own life and happiness. We owe it to ourselves to be awake. Does this make you feel uncomfortable? Study this feeling. Use it as a catalyst, a source of energy. It is simpler than you think. It is simpler than our mind would like us to believe. Do not trust your mind blindly. For it is not the only tool we have to understand life. Learn to listen to your soul and feel with your body. Amira Inaspecta … A play about a man’s journey on the unknown path to awareness.

Il pleut, il plaint, il rage | Studio-Théâtre des Grands Ballets Canadiens

Winner of the Best Choreography prize at the Internationales Solo Tanz Theater Stuttgart in 2023, Il pleut, il plaint, il rage questions our powerlessness in the face of a world in crisis. In a gradual transformation, the character oscillates between poetry and chaos, submission and revolt.

Veronique Giasson

RESET² | Studio-Théâtre des Grands Ballets Canadiens

After presenting the RESET duo at Festival Quartiers Danses in 2021 and 2022, choreographer Véronique Giasson repeats and magnifies her performance with this foursome, RESET².

Through a mathematical process, performers avoid one another and change paths, partners, and starting points. Reset areas within the space allow them to recharge, with each new start becoming more complex than the other. The multiplication of spatial configurations leaves us breathless and haunted. RESET² builds on the relationships between partners, team members, or fellow travelers evolving side by side.

An artistic and fitness challenge, the choreography showcases bodies that almost seem like they are about to collapse, but always maintain total control. Supported by a solid conceptual team (music by LACRYMOBOY, playwright by Mathieu Leroux, costumes and scenic space by Jonathan Saucier, lighting by Tiffanie Boffa, and repetition director Alisia Pobega), four dancers (Kennedy Henry, Merryn Kritzinger, Charles Cardin-Bourbeau and Danny de Matos) draw and redraw a path where everyone supports, challenges and surpasses one another.

Morgane Le Tiec | Compagnie de danse Sursaut

Messe en KA | Studio-Théâtre des Grands Ballets Canadiens

In Messe en Ka, Morgane Le Tiec explores the concept of rituals. Whether they are secular or religious, rituals contribute to building our identity and individuality. The choreographer attempts to restore rituals in a body in search of identity and meaning, and bases his search on space, time, and cycles. Inspired by various ancestral and cultural rituals, including the Egyptian KA which represents one part of the human soul, the artist creates movements honoring the act of ritual. For people aged 10 and older.
