Transire is a new take on Jean Cocteau’s play Le jeune homme et la mort choreographed by Roland Petit in 1946. Transire’s goal is to become a danced sequel of Cocteau’s story of a destitute young painter who commits suicide after breaking up with his lover, while infusing it with a contemporary flair. Transire is a poetic and physical metaphor for separation, failure, and grief – big and small- as a way to elevate and transform oneself.
Morceaux choisis brings together three short solos united by the music of Sergei Rachmaninov. The first, Béatrice de Dante, is inspired by the character of Béatrice in Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, seen as the poet’s muse. The choreographer combines this character with features of Florence (Jeanne Moreau’s role in Ascenseur pour l’échafaud), the two women wandering in a dance marked by place and time.
The second solo, created for the Festival Quartiers Danses in 2024, features Louise dancing to the rhythm of Rachmaninov’s Études-tableaux, Op. 39 and Moment musicaux No. 5.
The third solo, La femme brune, premiered at the Festival Furies in Marsoui, portrays a determined marginal figure, appropriating objects and space with unwavering strength.
Viewed with VR glasses, immersive dance video WITHIN invites the public to enter the mind of a choreographer. Each member of the audience controls the story and travels with a dancer through the ruins and natural landscapes of the Spanish Basque country. A virtual reality metaverse, the piece showcases real human bodies moving as one with nature.
WITHIN was born thanks to INNOCULT, a European project promoting the development of art and technology prototypes. It was presented during MEET, in Milan, and supported by Dantza Labea, Eszenabide and Espacio Punto de Fuga. So far, the piece has been shown in Cinedans, BLV Art, MEET, Labo Xl, Teatro Barakaldo, and the Dantzan Tzan Festival.
Anthem for the Living was choreographed by Sharon B. Moore in 2011, as part of the Heist Project in New York. Performed by Belinda McGuire, the solo fuses dance, theatre and circus arts in a burlesque, mysterious, restless, unpredictable, and vibrant atmosphere.
Anthem for the Living celebrates the depths of humanity through textured and magnetic movements, on a music from Alexander Balanescu.
Dea draws its inspiration from the play Nostra Dea (Our Goddess), created by playwright Massimo Bontempelli. In the play, the hero has no memories. Multiple identities, traits and appearances meet on this constantly renewed blank slate.
Without any sense of self or past, Dea bridges the gap between humans and puppets. Playing on and disrupting the original piece, Dea questions our sense of self and of others with evolving identities and renewed behaviours.
The Other Half is a collaboration between Vanessa Goodman and Belinda McGuire, who revisit the shared muscular memory of their youth as a starting point for a new duo that views their physicality through the prism of an immune system.
