Day of September 11 | FQD 2025

11 September 2025Chez Personne - le 312 + Théatre des Grands Ballets Canadiens

Programme

Charles-Alexis Desgagnés

Ouvre mes yeux | Chez Personne - Le 312

Ouvre mes yeux is an immersive contemporary dance solo by queer artist Charles-Alexis Desgagnés, performer-choreographer and artistic director of the company Personne Danse. The work unfolds within the artist’s actual place of residence, Chez Personne, an artist’s loft located in the heart of Montreal.

The extreme proximity of the audience invites them to become full participants in the exploration, perhaps even stirring within them a strange sense of intimacy. Audience members are free to move around the space at any time and are the curators of their own experience.

Juxtaposing the natural scenography of the loft, the organic sunlight, and the artist’s metamorphic dancing body, Ouvre mes yeux explores the codes of a queer identity—one often linked either to superficial entertainment, transactional hypersexualization, or a cathartic spiritual awakening. What are we to do with this wardrobe of sacred costumes?

Ouvre mes yeux marks the first step in a new solo creation cycle in which Charles-Alexis, in his mid-thirties, continues to refine and develop the choreographic bodies of his previous work L’appel des braises (2023), while infusing them with new colors inspired by his recent inner journeys through psychedelic medicinal plants.

Elahe Moonesi

War Pyramid | Atrium du Studio-Théatre des Grands Ballets Canadiens | Les Préludes du FQD

War Pyramid, by Iranian-Canadian choreographer Elahe Moonesi, is a striking exploration of power, trauma, and resistance. Interweaving symbolic movement, documentary traces, and mythological imagery, the piece unfolds beneath mirrored pyramids that evoke control and entrapment. Moonesi’s layered choreography resists a direct depiction of war, instead revealing the emotional architectures it leaves behind. A visceral and poetic call for vigilance and empathy.

Memory, embodied, domination

Janelle Hacault

Kapwa | Atrium du Studio-Théatre des Grands Ballets Canadiens | Les Préludes du FQD

Canadian artist of Filipino and French descent Janelle Hacault brings her rich multidisciplinary background to Kapwa, a 15-minute solo inspired by a pilgrimage to her ancestral lands. Known for her work in stage, screen, and circus, Hacault explores questions of identity, femininity, and belonging. Drawing on the Filipino value of “Kapwa,” the interconnectedness of all beings, she reimagines a way of being beyond patriarchy and capitalism. This intimate performance becomes a ritual of remembrance and renewal, sowing ancestral hope in the soil of personal and collective transformation.

Identity, heritage, hope

Béatrice Larrivée

Brièvement | Studio-Théatre des Grands Ballets Canadiens | Montréal rencontre la Pologne Acte II

A singular performer from Kuujjuaq and a collaborator with renowned companies such as RUBBERBAND and Batsheva Ensemble, Béatrice Larrivée delivers an intimate and powerful performance. Through a body language imbued with constraints and instinct, Brièvement explores the invisible weight of the choices we make or think we make. Somewhere between abstraction and narrative, this work raises universal questions about solitude, fear and freedom, while placing the body at the centre of a profoundly human quest.

Narration, intimacy, poetic

Cai Glover

Oh mother, oh brother | Studio-Théatre des Grands Ballets Canadiens | Montréal rencontre la Pologne Acte II

Cai Glover presents his new creation Oh mother, oh brother. As a deaf artist, Cai shapes a deeply sensorial choreographic language where the body becomes a site of listening and resonance. His unique way of hearing fuels a visceral movement, charged with emotion and traversed by raw poetry. His work, suspended between fragility and intensity, reflects a constant search for connection—with self, with others, with silence.

“My love is gestic / And my hands are tied” whispers a voice in the shadows, between revolt and surrender. This verse, drawn from a poem by the artist, resonates as a manifesto for dance that makes the invisible visible, questions identity, and exposes the body’s memory.

Captivating, inventive, contemporary
