COMMUNITY DANCE | ACHIM & VERDUN WOMEN CENTRE

The Community Dance project offers to organizations a series of workshops to create a choreography based on a creative collaboration between a choreographer and participants from the community. The FQD collaborated with two organizations to create performances that were presented as part of the 13th edition of the festival in 2015:

ConfiDanses de femmes – Trained in Latin dances and contemporary dance, Elizabeth Suich begins to create a unique aesthetic where the codes of the two disciplines come together, offering atypical and timeless universes. She has worked with Centre des Femmes de Verdun, a welcoming, safe, inclusive and feminist place where the rights and interests of women are defended, in a social change perspective.

Faraway Other Islands – Performer, teacher and choreographer for thirty years, Jane Mappin brings to life the relationship between contemporary dance and other forms of artistic expression. She met with the seniors of Alternatives communautaire d’habitation and intervention de milieu (ACHIM), a community organization whose mission is to develop community-based resources for the elderly in the Ville-Émard and Côte-St-Paul neighborhoods of Montreal in order to to keep them in their environment and to promote their quality of life.
