Building bridges with dance

was born in an attempt to promote the collaboration between the Arrondissement Ville-Marie residents and the homeless people present at Square Cabot, mainly composed of Indigenous peoples.

The Festival Quartiers Danses (FQD) collaborated with the Arrondissement Ville-Marie to offer four cultural outreach workshops on Indigenous dances promoting awareness on the Indigenous Cultures of the First Peoples. The activities were guided by the mohawk choreographer and dancer fostering a feeling of reappropriation of the public space for the population present at the Square Cabot, both Indigenous and allochthonous. After the four workshops, Barbara was joined by seven interpreters from the company A’nó :wara Dance Theatre, to perform extracts from the professional production Sky Dancers presented at the 19th edition of the FQD.

To contribute to the reconciliation initiative, the FQD invited members of the Indigenous community to assist to the profesionnal production at the Cinquième Salle at Place des Arts.

This project is being carried out thanks to the financial support of the Arrondissement Ville- Marie from the City of Montreal.
