Thaïna Rosinvil is a self-taught Montreal artist from Haiti. Between 2015 and 2017, while pursuing a doctorate in neuropsychology, she joined the dance troupe of the Université de Montréal. Driven by a deep desire to dance, she continued her training through intensive internship at BIG BANG under the direction of Stéphanie Decourteille. Thaïna presents this year a first creation at the Festival Quartier Danses.
Thaïna will work this summer with filmmaker Phethsari Pathammavong for the co-creation of their short dance film.
My creation is influenced by current events such as my personal experience, my emotional states and my thoughts. Since 2019, I have wondered about my position as a black woman in Quebec and the unfair prejudices associated with this label. The instinctive exploration of the weight of my body on the ground and of movements initiated by the pelvis and the hips leads me in an embodied, raw and poetic gesture.
