A born Montrealer, Isabelle Boulanger studies dance at École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, and graduates in May 2011. Wishing to make dance an accessible art form to all, Isabelle approaches her creations with lightness, humour, and mockery.
In the fall of 2011, she presents her first work, Une grande fente pour dire « allô », at the Tangente choreographic contest Danses Buissonnières. Given her “crystalline choreographic style, which is quite surprising for a young choreographer” (Dena Davida, artistic codirector, Tangente), she gets a free pass to appear in the 2012-2013 Tangente program and presents Fente-Toi!, her second creation.
During the year 2012, Isabelle is invited to show her creations in different contexts (high schools, MétroArt, Châteauguay Festival, OF.F.T.A) to make the general public aware of current contemporary dance practices. La Grande Fente is invited to present Fentes 1 à 3 at the 18th Festival Vue sur la Relève in April 2013. Isabelle is granted three coup de coeur prizes (“Stand-out Dance performance”, a pass for Parcours Danse 2013 and Cirque du Soleil’s Favourite Prize).
The young choreographer has recently presented her last creation Sans lactose at Monument National and has choreographed Ariane Moffatt’s Debout video.
