Approaching choreography through a wide variety of movement philosophies, Montreal-based duo Tentacle Tribe concocts conceptual hip-hop works with a contemporary approach. Experimenting with intricate partnering, refined musicality and a saturated dose of physical choreography, choreographers Emmanuelle Lê Phan and Elon Höglund have had their work presented in over 80 international cities. Their famed duet works include Fractals of You and Nobody Likes a Pixelated Squid and their more recent group works are Ghost, Threesixnine and Origami Mami.
The artistic process of this work consist of researching material from our previous creations, and choosing parts that we feel complimented each other but also that we are extra happy with. Off corse everything wont fit in 35 min, so we decided to mainly focus on sections involving all 6 core members. After deciding on the order, creating the arc, we make a mix of the music tracks and create new transitions. In the studio we approach the choreographies as a new piece instead of many small pieces from different shows. We do so by relearning the choreography and fit the interpretation to the new timeline and creating new transitions.
