BINDI

Trio

BINDI is a contemporary interpretation of moving meditation using the vocabularies of Bollywood and Indian Kathak dance. The piece, presented in contemporary style, draws on the symbolism and significance of the third eye as a gateway to profound experiences of the body, mind and soul.  Through this creation, Rameez explores the various layers of his identity and their embodiment in Bollywood and Indian movement. We are all essentially time bombs awaiting enlightenment. Every path to enlightenment is an intimately unique experience.

Biography

Rameez Karim is a queer choreographer, teacher and performer based in Montréal. His approach draws upon Bollywood and semi-classical Indian styles, as well as various folk genres. In 2019, Rameez founded the Veils of Bollywood Collective with the intention of investigating the various connections that exist between Indian dance and musicality, costumes, spirituality, nature, gender roles, queer representation and decolonization. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance with a specialization in creation and choreography at Concordia University. His work has been presented in Canada and abroad.

Artistic vision

My artistic process is rooted in an exploration of elements of mysticism, nature, digital technology, audience experience and cultural expression. My work undergoes several stages of refinement and evolution, allowing me to present it with greater clarity and authenticity. Through the art of movement, I continually deepen my relationship with and understanding of my body, mind and soul.

Dancers: Rameez Karim, Sofia El Iraki, Simmi Sunshine
