Poet, performance artist and producer, Marie-Paule Grimaldi’s artistic approach stems from community engagement. She has designed and directed shows and performances at the Francofolies de Montréal, Montreal’s International Literature Festival, Place des Arts’ Espace Georges-Emile-Lapalme, Phénomena Festival, Trois-Rivière International Poetry Festival of Trois-Rivières, Acadien Festival of Poetry, Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, Off-Avignon Festival and the Maison de la Poésie d’Avignon. Marie-Paule has also organized slam gatherings and published various short stories, art books and fanzines. Her poems and essays have been published in magazines in Quebec and Corsica.
Marie-Paule Grimaldi is also an intellectual, cultural and social mediator. She has facilitated writing and philosophy workshops in schools, community centres, cultural centres, and prisons. She works with marginalized populations, including criminalised and disadvantaged people, as well as First Nations and Inuit communities. Amonsgst others, Marie-Paule Grimaldi has been awarded a grant from the Montreal Arts Council for a writing residency and cultural mediation project at Bibliothèque Frontenac. She founded Debout: Actes de paroles in Spring 2018, a company devoted to creation, production and mediation of Spoken Performance. Debout has collaborated with BAnQ, Festival Quartiers Danses, Quartier des Spectacles, International Literature Festival, Fonds de recherche du Québec and Festival Phénomena.
