COMMUNICARE

Quintet

Communicare emphasizes the importance of communication between human beings, regardless of the medium employed. Even in a world overflowing with communication tools, few people truly come to understand each other. Communicare illustrates this chaos through five dancers who attempt to communicate their needs in their own languages. As the piece progresses, the dancers develop their listening skills and open-mindedness until they finally come to understand each other, and even to unite their voices.

Biography

Professional dancers Gabrielle Simard and José Florès are both graduates of the École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal. They work as performers, choreographers and dance teachers, both in the contemporary dance milieu and in business. To Gabrielle and José, dance is a perpetual discovery of self and others, a reflection of one’s inner world and a powerful tool for communicating with the outside world. When we place our confidence in our physical intelligence, anything is possible.

Artistic vision

The Latin word Corpus, which originates from a dead language, represents the extinction and abandonment of the language that unites all humans: that of the body. In today’s cerebrally based society, we wish to use movement to reconnect our bodies to our primal instincts and our deeply human roots. We like to create worlds that convey a vision, an emotion, a state of being or a message, simply through the power of bodies in motion.
