Choreographer & dancer
Originally from New Caledonia, Charles Brecard graduated from the École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM) in 2017. He has since collaborated with several Montreal artists such as Parts + Labor_Danse, Andrea Peña, Andrew Skeels and Martin Messier. His boundless curiosity pushes him towards Europe where he takes part in numerous training courses. Influenced by urban, folk and contemporary dances, he developed a teaching and creative practice. His work has been presented in New Brunswick, Montreal, France and Germany.
Charles is collaborating with filmmaker Do Phan Hoi or the co-creation of their short dance film.
Adept at raw, visceral and aesthetically recognizable movement. I draw my inspiration from Krump, Bboying, Popping, and the fluidity of the contemporary, aiming to find common ground for them. Above all, I seek the balance between the spontaneity of improvisation and the choreographic structure. Currently my style is a fluid, continuous and expressive dance. Working between two poles, tension and release, to oscillate between control, power, sensitivity and surrender.
